you know what it dash this is the street -- what it is. -- is the offramp. claudine wong, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> well, the victim of a hit and run in the south bay has died. it happened yesterday in san jose. ktvu's janine de la vega has been there since 4:30 this morning talking to people who say they know the dangers in the area. janine? >> reporter: well, dave this intersection quinnby road, the traffic is picking up. there are a lot of pedestrians in the area at that time when this happened. police say around 5:45 last night a man was crossing the intersection struck him and -- and was struck. his identify city not being released until his next of skin notified. police are looking for anyone who saw anything. police say it's disappointing that the driver acted so callous. >> it's sad that we have to -- you know, you have to obey the laws when you cross the street. obey the laws. >> reporter: we don't know if. victim was jaywalking or -- we don't know if the victim was jaywalking or was on the sidewalk. the speed limit on the road here is 40 miles an hour. we're waiting for a call

problems this morning even though it's clear outside. we begin our storm coverage with ktvu's alex savidge. >> reporter: good morning. a lot of repair work to do out here. la fayette creek runs underneath this street. it flooded. that's us what caused the roadway to -- that's what caused the roadway to collapse. crews will be using this heavy equipment to execute the sinkhole created yesterday, dig debris out from the creek that overflowed yesterday. it was late in the afternoon on sunday, when the soil eroded and the pavement out here just gave way. utility lines that were impacted, a gas line had to be capped, and suerers created a -- sewers created a bypass. now, the cause of this collapse was a pipe that diverts creek water. neighbors told us they could hear it go. >> it sounded like a big thud. a big really, heavy -- it shook the ground. it was a big boom. >> reporter: so now the city is working on a long-term fix out here for this area, perhaps they will put in some sop find kind of -- some kind of a rack so they can catch a lot of the debris that tends to run down the creek when the
area news coverage starts right now. this is ktvu mornings on 2. >> good morning to you. welcome. i'm dave clark. >> i'm torrie campbell. we are following developing news out of palo alto. police are searching for a man who reportedly entered a young woman's apartment. it happened early this morning. we are at the scene with the woman's frightening experience. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police say they are trying to be complete in this investigation. they have been here for the past five hours here at hawthorne. they are talking to neighbors to try to put together what happened. police say a woman in her 20s made a frantic 911 call at 2:20. she said she woke up and screamed when she found a man wearing dark clothing inside her apartment. that man took off running. police immediately started searching but came up empty. they are interviewing the woman. >> physically she is not hurt. she didn't require medical attention. that is the good news. as far as the traumatic incident and how it made her feel and the stress and being scared, obviously that's going to be a part
